On the basis of a competition tendered by the City of Mannheim, planquadrat created a design for the hybrid-timber housing project close to the city centre. The aim of the urban concept besides the five-storey roadside construction is to create an urban high point. The block perimeter development reacts to the direct environment whilst the high-rise building is a continuation of the existing sequence of high-rise buildings. The construction and the open spaces are characterised by intensive green. The lushly landscaped inner courtyard with "urban-gardening“ areas and a spacious staircase in the direction of the Neckar ties in with the specific open space qualities of the place and continues them effectively on the plot.
