On the corner of Chiemgaustraße and Schwanseestraße in Munich's Giesing district, an inner-city residential development from the post-war period was extended and densified. The development, consisting of four blocks of buildings with park-like courtyards, was getting on in years and had no sound insulation from the busy Mittlerer Ring.

The idea was to create additional living space for the area by closing the block to the main roads and taking suitable noise protection measures. The four-storey building blocks facing Schwanseestraße and the building heads of the three other blocks facing Chiemgaustraße were provided with one or two-storey partial extensions in timber panel construction and the front sides of the buildings facing Chiemgaustraße were supplemented with three new five-storey buildings. Supported by additional noise protection walls printed with a leaf structure, these now serve as effective noise protection for the apartments and inner courtyards. While retaining many of the existing trees, these were redesigned and now offer residents a high quality of stay.

The street-facing parts of the building were given soundproof windows and front boxes facing the street as well as balconies facing the quiet inner courtyard. In order to make the structural addition clearly legible, the perforated façades of the existing buildings were retained, while the extensions and new buildings were given horizontal ribbon windows. In total, 48 new apartments were created (11 of them with income-oriented social assistance) and a single-storey underground garage with 37 parking spaces under one of the inner courtyards.
