The two-storey Rheinufergarage (2004), initiated by the City of Mainz and the German "Werkbund", offers a total of 494 parking spaces. The underground car park accesses are located beyond the high water mark and are connected to the car park through galeries suffused with light, that also enable a clear view over the Rhine River. A jet ventilation system ensures aeration and ventilation of the car park. The objective of being able to use the shore area again as public space was ensured by firstly the parking spaces as well as by the new design of the promenade. The listed areas - the tree avenue, the infantry wall and the access gates to the banks of the Rhine - were hereby included.
