Schleiermacherstraße Darmstadt

The residential construction project in Schleiermacherstraße in Darmstadt comprises the extension of existing old buildings with two new buildings. The site is located in the immediate vicinity of the southern Herrngarten and is surrounded by historic buildings. This location requires a particularly sensitive architectural concept that takes into account both the historical surroundings and the modern requirements for living space. The project will create 80 residential units for students and trainees, which will help to relieve the housing market in Darmstadt.

The design takes into account the historical surroundings and incorporates their characteristic elements. The façade design is based on the surrounding buildings from the Wilhelminian era. The plinth band, terrace compound and hipped roof with bay windows are designed in line with the historical models in order to blend in harmoniously with the surroundings. The small-scale structure of the façade provides an appealing division of the wide building.
